The bylaw officers are off on family day but us federal boys have work so I parked in a no parking zone in front of the office all day. I am awesome!

I wish it was called Family Day in other provinces as well. I grew up in Manitoba, where it's named after a lunatic who conned a bunch of under-privileged people into joining his militia cult and then lead them to their deaths in a hopeless attempt to turn his holy city into an independent state...

Yeah, except the descendants of said people still see him as a hero and religious leader. My school's small community was largely Métis, and some of the stuff handed down is a bit... disquieting. I've even witnessed the older generation — people whose grandparents were alive during Riel's time — praying TO Riel. Gives you chills is what it does.
There are people who deserve to be celebrated... I'm not sure he's one of them. Sure, have a holiday, recognize the Métis people and their struggles, but pick some other name for it.
